TYT Adjustable Hitch Review: What I Think After Towing With It

The hitch in this photo is the TYT Adjustable Trailer Hitch Ball Mount. I bought it on Amazon for about $100. It sits in my truck’s 2.5-inch square receiver, and it’s what I use to pull my 18-foot enclosed trailer full of auction gear behind my 2021 Silverado 2500HD. That’s the gas 6.6L, on 37s, and it gets about 9 MPG when it’s towing.
Short version: it’s a great hitch.
What You Get
Here’s what the listing says:
- Fits a 2-1/2″ receiver
- Adjusts up to 6″ of drop or rise
- Comes with 2″ and 2-5/16″ balls
- Rated for 12,500 lbs gross trailer weight
- Listed as compatible with trailer systems up to 20,000 lbs
I’ve used both the 2″ and the 2-5/16″ balls. Having both on the same mount means I’m not digging around for a different shank when I hook up a different trailer.
Build Quality
This is where it stands out. The welds are solid and the powder coating is great. It’s a heavy, well-built piece. You can feel it the second you pick it up.
It’s heavy enough that the box showed up a bit beat up. That didn’t affect the hitch at all. Just don’t be surprised if the box looks rough when it lands on your porch.
Locking Pins and Keys
It comes with several locking pins and a couple of keys. I like that. When you’re parked somewhere with a trailer hooked up, or leaving the hitch in the receiver, it’s nice to know nobody can just pull the pin and walk off with it.
TYT vs. B&M
The big name in adjustable hitches is B&M, and they cost more. Other than getting the B&M name, I don’t know why you’d spend more. The TYT has held up fine for the way I use it, hauling an enclosed trailer of auction equipment.
If you tow a lot, the tires matter as much as the hitch. These are the tires I’d run when towing.
Would I Buy It Again?
Yes. For about $100 you get a heavy, well-made adjustable mount, two ball sizes, and locking pins with keys. If your 2500HD has a 2.5-inch receiver like mine and you pull different trailers, it’s worth a look.
Check the TYT Adjustable Hitch on Amazon
Before you tow, check your trailer’s weight and your truck’s tow rating, and make sure the ball size matches your coupler.
